Have you ever visited the doctor only to be told.
“Your just getting older, learn to live with it.”

Well to heck with that! You don’t need to live with it. Yes, ageing is inevitable, but the decay is optional.

The human body is a miracle, now believed capable of functioning for up to 170 years, although in our consumer society that’s not so easy to imagine. Experts agree that it’s possible to turn back our biological clocks and stay functionally younger, we just need the right formula.

Over millions of years the human body and brain have coded a system of messages that signal the body to grow or decay.

However human evolution has not kept pace with technology. We have a use it or lose it system, so when sitting in the car for hours or watching TV our body still interprets these signals the way it has for thousands of years and assumes we’re sedentary because there’s a food famine and begins shutting down, storing fat etc.

Our body is designed to move and when it’s moved in the right way good things happen, our brain also interprets exercise as a signal that we are hunting and gathering and ensures we are in a peak alert state, a process evolved over millions of years.

Experts now recommend we exercise 6 times a week. Some sports and activity are only suitable at certain stages of life. Sometimes though we don’t discover until it’s too late how an activity might affect our mobility and ability to stay active in the long term.

Enjoyment is also a factor and many professional sports people are able to successfully recover from injury and remain healthy and active later in life, although unfortunately not all of them are that lucky.

Step into our common sense corner for a minute.

If not, why? Sometimes there’s a good reason.

Instructor Programme

Oceans has a full time instructor training school which begins with the assistant instructor programme ideal for those with a passion for health and fitness. We provide ongoing training and support to develop your skills and knowledge in a rewarding, fulfilling role.

Our most recent Assistant Instructor graduates include 2 grandparents who have developed an infectious enthusiasm for the art and are an inspiration to those around them. They are part of a new group of parents redefining their expectations as grandparents.
